Absolute Vending Company Background:

OUR STORY

Absolute Vending Service, Inc. began in 1979, a dream shared by Jim & Mary Bollinger.  Jim had worked in vending his entire life, he began at the age of 14 by washing pop bottles for a neighborhood vendor on the north side of Chicago in 1951, worked his way through 3 vending companies doing route work, repair, sales and management.  After close to 30 years in the business he and his wife knew they could succeed and, using a lifetime of friendships and connections to get started they literally began the business in their garage and on the kitchen table.  The great American dream.

The company quickly grew from an initial location with three machines and $600 a month in sales to close to $1,000,000 in sales by 1990.  In 1989 son-in-law and daughter Dave & Bobbi Campbell joined the family business and by 2008 sales were $2.4 million.  The recession hurt all of Absolute’s customers, layoffs, plant closings, shifts cancelled, all contributed to lower vending sales. Industry reports showed nationwide sales dropped an average of 18%, in Illinois that was closer to 21%.  Absolute Vending, at it’s lowest point, had dropped 14% and through careful management survived that difficult time. In 2014 gross sales were $2.1 million.


Absolute Vending Service, Inc. is a small business located in Roselle Illinois.  We employ an Account Manager who is responsible for current account retention and new account development.  His position is diverse, challenging and time-consuming. Our Vice-President assists in sales and marketing efforts along with many other responsibilities that pull him in many directions.

We are seeking a savvy student who can evaluate our current situation and make recommendations for developing our marketing plan and help us create a strategy for implementing that plan and increasing our visibility in the marketplace.  Our company has not hired an intern previously, but we are open to ideas and willing to listen to their ideas.

The interview process would include meeting candidates, providing a thorough background, and asking them to brainstorm ideas they think would support our company.  Ideally, this process would be done over a short period of time, with the potential intern presenting their findings and suggestions by an agreed date.  Together we will prioritize those strategies and discuss implementation.  We will ask the intern to implement strategy as agreed upon.  During the development phase the intern will begin reporting to the Account Manager and the Vice-President.

Because we lack any marketing strategy at this time we will be welcoming to ideas presented by the intern.  We are excited to learn what is being taught in school today and how marketing is handled in a digital and fast moving world.

We are located in Roselle, Illinois.   We do expect our project to be on the front burner and making progress at all times, but we also support the intern’s need to prioritize education.
