Marketing & Social Media Assistant (Intern)

Reports to: President
Position Type: Hourly  – Temporary; Paid – Starting Wage $11.00/hour
Position Term: September-December 2017 (may be extended if mutually agreed)
Schedule: 10-15 hours per week at our offices in Bartlett, IL; mutually-agreed flexible schedule during business hours (8AM-6PM)

tangible accountability to contribute work, ideas, and apply their talent to execute the company’s brand strategy.

Marketing & Social Media Assistant (Intern)
Overall Goal: Ensure SHS branding strategy plan is implemented through social media, advertising (especially GoogleAds), company website, sponsorships, and relationships with several trade associations

Market Research Review

  • Review competitors’ social media presence and marketing campaigns focusing
    on the use of LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Perform a weekly analysis of social media and website performance
  • Create reports based on your analysis
  • An example of questions you’ll help us answer: What White Paper topics will be best for our branding strategy? What types of posts and emails get the highest response?

Social Media Content

  • Cultivate content for SHS’s social media platforms by staying up to date on news relevant to SHS: especially the hospitality industry, recruiting, retention, and organizational development
  • Actively work with SHS team members to identify their posting needs
  • Work within the SHS’s established style guide to create post proposals
  • Create a backlog of relevant articles/photos and appropriate commentary that will be of interest to our audience
  • Collaborate with your supervisor to revise, approve, and post selected content
    following the established social media plan


  • Work with SHS stakeholders on digital advertising campaigns
  • Check campaign performance daily, benchmarking prime KPI’s against industry norms to ensure superior ad performance
  • Become an expert on performance analytics, providing insight and direction to
    maximize ROI on advertising budget
  • Work on creative concepts and advertising ideation

Website and Email Management

  • Review the SHS website once a week and suggest edits, additions, and updates
    as needed
  • Ensure that all content follows the SHS style guide
  • Identify the need for new content, as needed
  • Assist in the creation and/or editing of marketing collateral, emails and online
    promotions, if necessary


  • Contribute ideas and brainstorming power to marketing planning meetings
  • Assist in the distribution of marketing materials
  • Assist President and other employees with other job relevant assignments and

Work Context: You will need a reliable mode of transportation. You will be expected to work in the office sitting at a desk while using a computer. You will also be required to interact with other SHS employees for various reasons. SHS uses Windows platform and Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). You will need your own laptop computer and mobile phone on a wireless plan, with texting and email capability for frequent communication.

Position Requirements/Applicant Qualifications:

  • Student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school (preferably studying Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Sales, or a related field) with a serious professional interest in brand-focused marketing through social media, sponsorships, and advertising
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of a variety of social media outlets: especially LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Comprehension of advertising concepts, especially GoogleAds; both how to create and manage ad campaigns as well as source and interpret analytics
  • Comprehension of sponsorships and how participation in trade organizations can benefit a business services company
  • Ability to quickly learn new programs and procedures
  • Typing skills of at least 40 words per minute and ability to use Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to keep high intensity throughout the workday
  • Punctual, attentive, reliable, and accountable team player
  • Self-motivated and able to complete projects and tasks without direct supervision
  • Demonstrate a very high level of organization, accuracy, and detail-orientation
  • Knowledge of hospitality or corporate environment preferred
  • Previous experience in an office setting preferred
